The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go." – Dr. Seuss. A child's reading skills are important to their success in school as they will allow them to access the breadth of the curriculum and improve their communication and language skills. In addition, reading can be a fun and imaginative time for children, which opens doors to all kinds of new worlds for them. Building vocabulary and understanding,it expands the mind, creative thinking, helps improve concentration, provide a sense of belonging, helps to destress oneself are some advantages of reading.Today, a reading competition 'Read-A-Thon' waa organized for the students of class 8 to 12. The goal of the Book Reading Competition is to stimulate, encourage and activate reading on a continuous basis. Furthermore, the competition encouraged students to practice pronunciation and listen to others. In this contest students were asked to read the book of their choice out to the audience.

Students were given a selection of books under various categories to read within the assigned time frame. Choosing and preparing motivated the children to actively explore literature from this part of the world. Furthermore, the competition encouraged students to practice pronunciation and listen to others.
The children in the audience were equally delighted. The children realised that the stories offered many facets. That of suspense, entertainment and information and they were filled with a new curiosity. They read out their stories with articulation, correct accentuation and voice modulation.
At the completion of the competition, our judge Ms. Aarusha Zirak shared the tips and improvement areas while reading. The winners were declared in two sets. Three positions from Std. 8th-9th and Std. 10th-12th. All readers were feeling wonderful for exploring such an opportunity.
